For the past six months, a group of young volunteers has been volunteering in Sarajevo’s Temporary Reception Centers (TRCs) to assist migrants and refugees. Volunteers in the H.A.N.D. project (Humanitarian Aid for the Needs of Development) have been key players in helping TRCs run smoothly.

The main idea of the event is to bring young people together and show them that change is possible through volunteering and its activities in local communities.

No Nation Fashion is a creative program that started in the TRCs of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was first started during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way for migrants to design and customize masks. Over time, it grew into a full clothing design project, where migrants can create, sew, and showcase their own unique fashion pieces.

Our volunteers are organizing creative workshops like painting, knitting, and cooking. These activities aren’t just about learning new skills, they have much deeper meaning, to give seniors a chance to express themselves and meantime to have fun.

Cultural exchange happens when people from different backgrounds are sharing their traditions, languages, and ways of life, and that’s what BRAVO is strongly supporting. In our TRCs, volunteers from countries like Poland, Turkey, Italy, France etc. worked side by side with local communities and migrants from all over the world.

This month our H.A.N.D. project volunteers traveled to Tuzla, meeting Marko, a Bravo project coordinator. He arranged meetings with local organizations, where they learned about volunteer actions, target groups, and local aims.

Study visits like this one play a huge role in volunteering projects, especially projects like H.A.N.D. As mentioned they’re not just about traveling; they’re about learning, sharing, and growing.

Friday 22nd March, our H.A.N.D. volunteer Anne Sophie Laurence Phetsarath had the honor of being invited by the women of the elderly center for a private exhibition of Bosnian painting at the Saint Anthony Franciscan Monastery. This exhibition explored the intersection between Art and Bosnia and offers a rare glimpse of the artists working methods and invites us to take time to look, offering intimate insights into their artistic relationship and differing creative processes.
