Eurofound estimates a loss of EU economies to €142 billion/year in benefits and foregone earnings and taxes due to NEETs and a significant impact on the economic and social development of the EU. With the situation of youth aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic effects, NEET rates and further economic loss grew across the EU, and 9 Member States record NEET rates above the EU average of 16.4%.
Social disengagement dramatically affects young people’s well-being, with long-term impacts, as it decreases overall life satisfaction and increases the risk of social exclusion while declining optimism about the future.
Our project answers the societal challenge of high rates of NEET youngsters in Romania, EU, and EaP due to the few attractive opportunities for their development, lack of easily accessible information about the opportunities, and low competences of youth workers in promoting such development opportunities, combined with the negative perception of the ‘alternative’ inclusion/development programs.
Therefore, we aim at increasing social inclusion chances and providing equal opportunities for NEET youngsters from the EU, WB and EaP region, through:
