About the Hosting Organisation

What is Moby Dick ETS?

 

  • Takes its name from the famous white whale in H. Melville’s book.

  • An NGO based in Salerno (Italy) founded in 2005.

  • Operates in 3 main fields:

    • Activities related to young people and European mobility.

    • Innovative teaching and non-formal education.

    • Participation of young people in democratic life.

  • Promotes European mobility projects (Erasmus KA1, Structured Dialogue KA3, and ESC projects) since 2011.

  • Acts as the Lead and Host organization for this ESC project.

Location & Accommodation

Location: Acerno (SA)

 

  • A mountain village in the province of Salerno, inside the Picentini Mountains Regional Park.

  • Known for its chestnut forests, natural springs, cool climate, quiet historic center, and the Cathedral of San Donato.

  • Famous for local gastronomy (chestnuts and traditional dairy products).

Accommodation: H.E.Y. (Hub for European Youth)

 

  • Address: Via Massimino De Lucio, Acerno (SA).

  • History: Located inside a Franciscan monastery founded in 1584 following a papal decree by Gregory XIII.

  • Renovation: Completely renovated by Moby Dick ETS to host international events, youth mobility initiatives, and cultural exchange projects.

  • Rooms & Facilities:

    • Volunteers will be accommodated in double rooms (assigned based on availability).

    • Beds are fully prepared with fresh sheets and pillowcases upon arrival.

    • Features two shared bathroom units (each equipped with 3 toilets and 3 showers), separated by gender.

Practical Information

  • Money: Each volunteer receives 11 euros per day for pocket money and food allowance.

  • Travel Costs: Covered up to the distance band limit specified by the ESC guidelines.

  • Household Bills: Fully covered by Moby Dick ETS.

Volunteer Activities

Volunteers will be integrated into the Moby Dick ETS team, working alongside the staff in the daily management and animation of H.E.Y. Their operational and logistical contribution covers two main areas:

 

  1. Logistical and Organizational Support:

    • Welcoming participants, operational management of residential facilities, secretarial support, and preparation of materials.

    • Supporting the 6 annual Erasmus+ Youth Exchanges, Youth Worker courses, seminars with the University of Salerno, and Universal Civic Service training sessions.

  2. Youth Work and Local Engagement:

    • Assisting with the local youth info-point (Informagiovani / Europe Direct style).

    • Supporting the organization and management of educational workshops, cultural initiatives, and community events tailored for young teenagers (11+ years old) and local youth.
