Children do not naturally focus on differences—they simply want to play, learn, and make friends. Sport creates the perfect environment for this to happen.

When children participate in sports together, they quickly discover that teamwork matters more than appearance, language, nationality, or ability. They begin to appreciate what each teammate contributes rather than what makes them different.

This is one of the main ideas behind the UniTos project.

Children from Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia will meet through traditional sports, creating friendships that go beyond borders. At the same time, children with and without disabilities will participate together in adapted activities designed to ensure everyone can contribute.

Sport naturally teaches cooperation. Passing a ball, encouraging a teammate, celebrating success, or overcoming challenges together builds trust and empathy.

❝  Inclusive sport also helps reduce stereotypes. Children who grow up playing together become adults who understand diversity and value equality.

Research consistently shows that children who participate in sports develop stronger social skills, better communication, and higher self-confidence. They learn how to solve problems, respect different opinions, and support one another.

The friendships created through sport often last far beyond the playing field. By bringing children together through traditional sports, UniTos helps build a future where inclusion is natural and diversity is celebrated.
