BRAVO BiH

On February 19th, an online check-in meeting was held for the GENDERWISE project, bringing together partners from Croatia, Portugal, Greece, Finland, Ukraine and Bosnia and Herzegovina. This session focused on advancing our research efforts to promote gender equality in sports, and we took this opportunity to reflect on our progress and ensure we’re on track with our research methodologies.

Strengthening Our Research Approach

A key topic of discussion was the progress of our three-part research framework, which includes interviews with former athletes who have transitioned into leadership and coaching roles as well as conducting surveys which will target young female athletes to better understand their experiences and as a third part in research framework, all partners will create a desk research analyzing existing educational programs and resources related to gender equality in sports.

To enhance the depth and relevance of our findings, partners agreed on implementing an innovative two-stage interview process, designed to yield deeper insights and actionable recommendations.

Defining Core Research Themes

During the meeting, the team also identified six core themes that will shape our research and those are leadership in sports which has the intention to understand the pathways and challenges women are facing in leadership roles, as well as coaching in sense of exploring the experiences of female coaches and their representation in the field.

Apart from above mentioned, other four identified core themes are:

  • The role of men as allies – highlighting how male leaders and athletes can support gender equality efforts.
  • Increasing women’s participation in sports governance – strategies to improve representation at decision-making levels.
  • Career advancement opportunities for women – identifying barriers and solutions for career progression in sports.
  • Social responsibility in the sports sector – ensuring inclusivity and fairness across all levels.

These themes reflect our commitment to fostering long-term gender equality in sports and ensuring that our research leads to meaningful change.

Looking Ahead

The discussions and decisions made during this meeting reinforce the relevance of our work and its future impact. The research findings will serve as a foundation for actionable recommendations that will help shape policies and initiatives supporting women in sports leadership and governance.

The BRAVO team is proud of the progress achieved and remains committed to driving real change. With set deadlines and a clear direction, we look forward to the next phases of the GENDERWISE project and the positive impact it will bring to the sports community.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue this journey towards gender equality in sports!
