BRAVO BiH

The organization BRAVO, in partnership with international organizations, is focused on developing transversal skills. In today’s increasingly complex reality, the development of basic and transversal skills is a high priority in order to meet the demands of employers and the imperatives of specific citizenship, as the European Commission noted in the “New Skills Agenda for Europe” (2016). One project that BRAVO is involved in is BOOST, which stands for “Boosting Outstanding Omnicompetent Successful Talents.” BOOST is a 24-month strategic partnership, funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union, with the goal of creating new education and personal development opportunities for young people in Europe by providing interactive educational formats and methods based on the development of transversal skills. The project consortium that has been implementing various activities over the past two years includes Bulgaria, Italy, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The main needs that were addressed during this project include:

• Empowering young people and youth workers through all BOOST activities and achievements;

• A practical MOOC (massive open online course) tailored for young people for e-learning to develop transversal skills;

• A BOOST manual tailored for youth workers.

Yesterday, we presented BOOST, one of the results of this project, the BOOST manual for youth workers to members of various organizations from different regions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the goal of disseminating the project’s results in the local community, increasing visibility, and sharing valuable knowledge with local organizations to strengthen their capacities and support the development of transversal skills among their members and youth workers. Ismail Šehić presented the manual to representatives of other organizations so that they can build on the recommendations developed during the project and described in the manual.

The manual can be found on the website https://www.boostskills.eu/ and by using the manual, you can learn more about themes such as: critical and innovative thinking, presentation, communication, and organizational skills, teamwork skills, self-discipline, enthusiasm, persistence, self-motivation, tolerance, openness, respect for diversity, intercultural understanding, and more.

Transversal skills, also known as 21st century skills, are a set of abilities that are essential for personal and professional development in today’s rapidly changing world. These skills are not specific to any one job or industry and are transferable across different fields and contexts.

They include:

  1. Critical thinking and problem-solving: the ability to analyze information, evaluate evidence, and make logical conclusions.

  2. Creativity and innovation: the ability to generate new ideas and approaches to challenges.

  3. Communication: the ability to express oneself effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  4. Collaboration: the ability to work effectively with others in a team setting.

  5. Digital literacy: the ability to use technology to access, analyze, and communicate information.

  6. Leadership: the ability to inspire, motivate, and guide others.

  7. Emotional intelligence: the ability to understand, manage, and express one’s own emotions, and to recognize and respond to the emotions of others.

  8. Global citizenship: the ability to understand and appreciate different cultures and ways of life, and to act responsibly and ethically as a global citizen.
