The volunteering activity will take place in one of the neighbourhoods of Zagreb, Croatia from 06.02.2021 – 03. 04. 2021., bringing together 10 young people from TURKEY, BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA, FRANCE, SPAIN, LITHUANIA, GREECE, IRELAND, BULGARIA, NETHERLANDS AND GERMANY. In the period of these two months, the international youngsters will create and deliver workshops for local school children and for children from the local refugees’ integration centre with an aim to introduce their culture and countries. Each volunteer will be paired up with a local elderly person who will be supporting the volunteer in planning and delivering their activities.
The project aims in the short-term period to create new practice and direction in organizing of free time activities in one of Zagreb’s neighbourhoods (Savica), through intercultural and intergenerational solidarity activities, with special emphasis on kids, youth and elderly population (pensioners).
During 8 weeks 10 volunteers will implement intercultural workshops in local school and library in Savica neighbourhood as well as in the refugees’ integration centre (kids aged 6 – 10). Participants of this project will create and implement those workshop in pair with elderly volunteers who are keen to volunteer together with young international volunteers. Volunteers will be presenting their countries, language, history and culture to 120 kids in 6 groups through an after-school stay in the local school and estimated additional 120 kinds from neighbourhood attending 3 other schools in the area through workshops in the local library and in the local refugees’ centre run by the Jesuit Refugee Service.
Volunteers will organize 5 Syncro workshops through 5 weeks on the activity. These workshops will give the opportunity for local youth to get to know the volunteers and the countries they come from. The content of the workshops will be based on the topic of interculturality.
Apart from that volunteers will implement their individual personal projects – the personal project will be a part of this volunteers activity that will give a space for the volunteers to create something that they have always wanted to do, something that is for free for the people participating in it and something that aims at improving the quality of lives in the local community. Syncro will give support to the volunteers by creating a frame for their actions, coaching them to express their ideas, agreeing on deadlines and next steps, but the content of these projects will be created by the volunteers themselves

Accommodation: All 10 volunteers will be living in Funk Loung Hostel located in the centre of Zagreb. For the purpose of this project, there will be rooms booked only for the participants of this project
Pocket and food money the volunteers will receive food and pocket money of 250 EUR/month.
Transportation during the project – The volunteers will be provided with public transportation tickets for the duration of the project.
Health insurance – CIGNA Health Insurance is provided to the volunteers as part of the project.
Travel costs to and from Zagreb will be reimbursed up to 180 EUR, 275 EUR or 360 EUR depending on the country you are coming from.
