BRAVO BiH

Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina – 31 October 2026 – The city of Mostar hosted an exciting international ORIUNITE Orienteering Race, bringing together 47 participants for a day filled with sports, adventure, exploration, and community spirit.

Organized as part of the Erasmus+ ORIUNITE project, the event aimed to promote physical activity, social inclusion, healthy lifestyles, and the power of sports to connect people from different backgrounds.

Following the successful ORIUNITE race held in Sarajevo on 3 October 2026, the initiative continued its journey in Mostar, offering participants another opportunity to challenge themselves, develop their navigation skills, and discover the city’s unique surroundings through an engaging sporting experience.

47 Participants, One City, and an Unforgettable Experience

The event began with participants gathering near the bust of Emina Sefić in Mostar, where registration, introductory instructions, and a short educational session on orienteering rules took place.

Following the introduction, participants embarked on an exciting challenge to locate checkpoints throughout Mostar, putting their navigation abilities, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills to the test.

Unlike traditional running competitions, orienteering combines physical activity with map reading, decision-making, and spatial awareness. It challenges participants not only to move quickly but also to think strategically and navigate their surroundings effectively.

This combination makes orienteering a unique and engaging sport that can be enjoyed by individuals with different abilities, experiences, and levels of physical fitness.

One of the central messages of the ORIUNITE project is that sports should be a space for inclusion, equal opportunities, personal development, and meaningful connections among people.

More Than a Competition: Promoting Inclusion and Community Spirit

The ORIUNITE race in Mostar was much more than a sporting competition. It was an opportunity to promote the fundamental values of the Erasmus+ programme, including solidarity, cooperation, mutual respect, inclusion, and active participation in society.

Through activities such as orienteering, participants can strengthen their selfconfidence, improve communication and decision-making skills, develop independence, and experience the importance of community engagement.

The event also highlighted the potential of outdoor sports to bring together people from different generations and backgrounds, encouraging them to embrace healthier and more active lifestyles.

By introducing participants to a different way of exploring their surroundings, ORIUNITE demonstrated how sports can combine education, recreation, and social interaction in one meaningful experience

Celebrating Achievements and Sportsmanship

Following the completion of the race, the most successful participants received awards in recognition of their achievements, dedication, and orienteering skills.

While the competition celebrated outstanding performances, the greatest achievement was the participation of 47 individuals who chose to spend their day being active, exploring Mostar, and embracing a new sporting challenge.

Every participant contributed to the positive atmosphere of the event, demonstrating enthusiasm, perseverance, and sportsmanship.

The race served as another reminder that the true value of sports extends beyond winning medals or achieving the fastest time. It lies in personal growth, shared experiences, and opportunities to connect with others.

A Successful Event Thanks to Volunteers and Partners

The successful implementation of the ORIUNITE Orienteering Race in Mostar was made possible through the dedication and cooperation of the organizing team, partner organizations, and volunteers who contributed to the preparation, coordination, and implementation of the event.

Special appreciation goes to the volunteers whose commitment, responsibility, and positive energy played an important role in ensuring the smooth organization of the race.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to all participants for their enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and willingness to become part of the ORIUNITE experience.

The event was organized through the cooperation of BRAVO – Bosnian Representative Association for Valuable Opportunities, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sports and Recreation Association, and the Orienteering Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, within the framework of the Erasmus+ ORIUNITE project.

ORIUNITE: Building More Active and Inclusive Communities

The successful implementation of the ORIUNITE races in Sarajevo and Mostar has once again demonstrated the potential of orienteering as an activity that combines physical exercise, education, exploration, and social interaction.

Through the ORIUNITE project, we aim to make orienteering more accessible to the wider public, encourage active participation among young people and other community members, and promote the principles of inclusion and equal opportunities through sports.

By bringing people together in public spaces and encouraging them to engage in physical activity, initiatives such as ORIUNITE contribute to building healthier, more inclusive, and better-connected communities.
