BRAVO BiH

Sport is much more than running, jumping, or winning a game. It helps children grow, make friends, build confidence, and enjoy an active lifestyle.

In the UniTos – United through Sport project, children will discover four traditional sports from Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia: bocce, skiing, stone throwing, and traditional wrestling.

Each sport is unique, but together they teach children important life skills while encouraging inclusion, respect, and teamwork.

Building Confidence

Every child deserves the chance to feel successful. Trying a new sport helps children discover what they can do instead of focusing on what they cannot. Learning a new skill, improving over time, and celebrating small achievements helps children believe in themselves.

For children with disabilities, adapted traditional sports create an environment where everyone has the opportunity to participate, contribute, and succeed.

Making New Friends

Sport brings people together. During training sessions and international camps, children will meet peers from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds. They will play on the same team, support one another, and learn that friendship has no borders.

These shared experiences help children develop empathy, kindness, and respect for others.

Learning Teamwork

Even in sports where individual skills are important, children learn to communicate, encourage others, and work towards a common goal. They discover that listening, helping teammates, and respecting everyone are just as important as winning.

Staying Healthy and Active

Physical activity helps children develop stronger muscles, better balance, coordination, and overall fitness. Traditional sports also encourage children to spend more time outdoors, away from screens and digital devices. Regular movement supports both physical and mental health, helping children feel happier, more energetic, and more focused.

Respecting Different Abilities

One of the main goals of the UniTos project is inclusion. Children with and without disabilities will train and learn together through adapted activities.

This teaches young people that everyone has different strengths and abilities. They learn to appreciate differences, support one another, and create an environment where everyone feels welcome.

Discovering New Cultures

Each traditional sport tells a story about the country it comes from. By learning bocce from Croatia, skiing from Slovenia, stone throwing from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and traditional wrestling from Serbia, children also discover the history, customs, and traditions of their neighbours. This helps them better understand different cultures while recognizing how much they have in common.

Learning Fair Play

Traditional sports teach children to respect the rules, their coaches, teammates, and opponents. Winning is exciting, but learning how to lose with dignity and celebrate the success of others is just as valuable.

These lessons stay with children long after the game is over and help them become respectful, responsible adults.

Creating Memories for Life

The experiences children gain through sport often become some of their happiest memories. They remember the friendships they built, the places they visited, the challenges they overcame, and the confidence they gained.

Through the UniTos project, children will not only learn traditional sports—they will learn how sport can connect people, celebrate diversity, and create opportunities for everyone. Because when children play together, they also learn to grow together.
