“The course The Adaptation and Rehabilitation of Migrants to Social Life hosted in Turkey took a close look at migration-why people move, the laws involved, and the ripple effects on individuals and communities. Given how the topic fills headlines today, it felt timely, and I’m grateful I could be part of the learning circle. I really liked the way the sessions were delivered, they were engaging, and all the lecturers were kind, approachable, and open to discussion. The atmosphere made it easy to ask questions and share opinions, which I appreciated.

Through the project, I learned more about migration issues not only in Turkey but also in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was interesting (and sometimes surprising) to compare the two. The film we watched and the discussion afterwards were one of my favorite part, it was a creative and emotional way to explore these topics, showing the impact that media can have, how it can educate us, raise awareness, and awaken empathy within us.

I’m also really happy that I made new friendships, both with people from my country and from Turkey. That human connection made the whole experience more meaningful. What I liked most was that we weren’t just listeners,  we had space to participate actively, to think, and to share. It felt like our voices mattered, which is something you don’t always get. This project definitely left a positive impact on me.”  – Ajša Goralija

“I recently had the opportunity to participate in an international program that took place in Istanbul, and the main topic was migration and migrants. This experience was extremely valuable and inspiring for me, both academically and personally.

The program was carefully designed and every day we had the opportunity to listen to different professors and experts who covered a wide range of topics. I especially liked the fact that the lectures were varied and interactive, which made it possible to better understand the complexities of migration through discussions and examples from real life.

One of the topics was the political influence and significance of migration in Turkey. I admit that I didn’t have much knowledge about that area before, but thanks to this program, I now have a clearer picture of the challenges and policies related to migrants in that country. I believe that this is precisely the wealth of this program – opening up new perspectives and understanding of topics that may not have been sufficiently represented in my previous education.

I really liked the whole program. In addition to knowledge, I also brought new acquaintances, exchanges of opinions with young people from different parts of Turkey, but also a feeling of greater understanding and empathy towards migrants and their experiences. I returned home with a lot of new information and ideas that I will certainly continue to research and use in my further education and activism.

However, I believe that the program would have been even better if we had at least one day reserved for a practical visit – for example, to a migration camp, an integration center, or if we had the opportunity to talk directly with migrants. This would further enrich our experience and allow us to hear first-hand the stories of those we learn about. In any case, I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of a program like this and believe that experiences like this have the power to change the way we look at the world around us.” – Amila Dugalić

“Participating in the 9-day educational program on migration in Istanbul was a truly eye-opening and enriching experience. The program, conducted entirely in Turkish, offered a deep and comprehensive understanding of the challenges and realities faced by migrants. Despite the language barrier, the supportive atmosphere and engaging content made it easy to follow and learn.

The trainers were knowledgeable and passionate, creating a space for meaningful dialogue and cultural exchange. I particularly appreciated the opportunity to hear firsthand stories from people working in the field and to visit local organizations supporting migrants.

The program not only expanded my knowledge but also deepened my empathy and awareness of global migration issues. Istanbul, as a crossroads of cultures and histories, was the perfect setting for such a program. I return home inspired, better informed, and motivated to contribute to positive change in my community.

I highly recommend this program to anyone interested in migration and social justice.” – Amila Smajić

“My Experience in an Educational Program on the Rehabilitation and Social Integration of Migrants – Istanbul, Turkey

I participated in an educational program held in Istanbul, focused on the rehabilitation and social integration of migrants. Although we did not have direct contact with migrants, through lectures, interactive workshops, debates, and the analysis of a documentary film, I gained valuable knowledge and developed a deeper awareness of this important social issue.

The lectures covered the psychological and social impacts of migration, as well as the role of education and local communities in the integration process. One of the most impactful moments for me was the group discussion following the screening of a film that portrayed real-life stories of migrants. That experience deeply moved me and challenged me to reflect on my own perspectives and level of empathy.

During the debates, I had the opportunity to express my views, listen to different perspectives, and strengthen my skills in active listening and constructive argumentation. The program broadened my horizons and motivated me to get more involved in socially responsible projects. I learned how essential understanding, tolerance, and education are in building a more inclusive society.

This experience in Istanbul left a strong impression on me and enriched me both professionally and personally.” – Belkisa Mujić

“I participated in the project Training Course: The Adaptation and Rehabilitation of Migrants to Social Life, which was held in Istanbul, Turkey. This experience was extremely valuable to me, as I had the opportunity to learn about migration from different perspectives, legal, social, and psychological. Through workshops, lectures, and group activities, I gained a deeper understanding of the challenges migrants face, as well as the ways in which society can support their successful integration.

What impressed me the most was the exchange of experiences with participants from other countries, the cultural differences actually brought us closer together. In addition to new knowledge, I also developed skills in teamwork, communication, and critical thinking. Staying in Istanbul was inspiring, the city’s rich history and the warmth of its people made the experience even more special. This project motivated me to stay involved in socially important topics, especially those related to human rights and inclusion.” – Lamija Gutić

“Participating in this training course was an unforgettable   experience. The project was held in Istanbul, Turkey, and focused on the topic of migration and adaptation processes in modern societies.

I had the chance to meet inspiring people from different countries, share perspectives, and learn through interactive workshops, simulations, and discussions. The sessions helped me understand not only the legal and social aspects of migration but also the emotional and psychological impact it has on individuals. I particularly appreciated the group activities that encouraged teamwork and critical thinking. I also enjoyed exploring Istanbul’s culture, which added to the depth of the experience.

This project helped me improve my communication skills, increase my cultural sensitivity, and gave me the motivation to be more active in social projects in my local community. I am truly grateful for this opportunity and for the connections I made. It was not only educational but also personally empowering, and I believe it will have a lasting impact on both my academic and personal growth.” – Emina Hasifić

“Participating in this Erasmus+ project in Istanbul was a truly unique experience, unlike any previous mobility I’ve attended. This program had a more academic and seminar-style structure, with daily lectures and guest speakers from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Far from being simply a cultural exchange, this project offered an in-depth and well-structured learning experience that I genuinely enjoyed. My main goal was to learn something new — and I can confidently say that this program exceeded my expectations.

One of the highlights was listening to professors and experts share perspectives on migration that were not only academic but also political and data-driven. While some participants may have anticipated a focus on psychological or sociological aspects, I personally appreciated the political and international approach. As a graduate in International Relations and Diplomacy with a passion for geopolitical issues, I found this format especially engaging.

The progression of the lectures was logical and well-structured. We began by defining key concepts such as migration, immigration, diaspora, and refugees, and then delved into relevant statistics and trends: the main regions migrants come from, their migration routes, popular destinations for international students, and the regional factors influencing migration patterns. We also engaged in debates on timely topics like open vs. closed migration policies and whether migrants should be granted full rights in host countries.

Another particularly interesting session examined how migration is portrayed in cinema. We analyzed visual techniques used in films to symbolize the emotional journey of migrants, such as lighting, colors, and mood changes between scenes. Furthermore, we had the chance to learn about the work of think tanks and their influence in shaping political narratives — especially relevant since the host organization, SETA, operates as a prominent think tank. It was a true privilege to engage in discussion with SETA’s Director, Mr. Faruk Yeşilçimen, and I’m honored to have received compliments for my contributions during the sessions.

I did my best to actively participate despite my Turkish not being fluent, and I’m proud that I managed to stay involved in every part of the program. In the final days of the seminar, we explored demographic trends in countries like Japan and South Korea, where low birth rates pose serious future challenges. It was a powerful conclusion to the program, as we examined how migration could be a potential solution to aging populations and demographic decline — underlining the importance of inclusive

migration policies in the future.

On a more personal note, I would like to express my appreciation for the organization and hospitality provided. As someone familiar with Istanbul, I understand that commuting an hour in one direction is completely normal in such a large city. I found the logistics and support to be more than adequate, and I regret that some participants may not have shown the level of understanding or gratitude that was deserved. If one cannot navigate public transport in a foreign city, perhaps they are not ready for an international program. I did not come to Istanbul to sightsee — my goal was to represent myself, my sending organization BRAVO, and my country in the best light possible. I believe I did just that by fully engaging with the content and discussions. Thank you once again for giving me the opportunity to be part of this experience. It was not only educational but also personally fulfilling, and I will carry the knowledge and me” – Lamija Veladžić

“From June 15th to 22nd, I had the opportunity to participate in an international project held in Istanbul, focusing on immigration, integration strategies, and support systems for migrants and refugees. The program gathered participants from different countries, creating a rich environment for cultural exchange and mutual learning. The main goal was to explore current challenges in migration and to collaboratively develop innovative, inclusive approaches to immigrant integration. Throughout the program, I actively engaged in various activities including expert-led workshops, interactive seminars, and practical group exercises. Topics ranged from international migration law to local integration practices, with special emphasis on human rights and social inclusion. I was particularly involved in a group project that addressed migrant access to education and healthcare, which we presented at the end of the program.

One of the highlights for me was the chance to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds, which greatly enhanced my intercultural communication skills and broadened my perspective on global migration issues. Upon completing the program, I received a certificate in recognition of my full participation and contribution, which I consider a significant personal and professional achievement.

I am extremely satisfied with the overall experience. It was not only educational but also personally enriching. If given the chance to join a similar program in the future, I would definitely participate again without hesitation. This experience confirmed my strong interest in migration topics and inspired me to stay involved in projects that promote social inclusion and human rights.” – Semina Alić
