BRAVO is embarking on an exciting new journey along with the Federation of Sports and Recreation of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SZSR), kicking-off a new project titled ORIUNITE. This initiative aims to leverage the power of orienteering to bring together young people from diverse backgrounds, fostering unity, and lasting peace through sports.
The official kick-off meeting for ORIUNITE took place from February 17 to 19 in the beautiful city of Budapest, Hungary. This gathering served as a platform for partners to connect, strategize, and set the foundation for the project’s successful implementation.
Representing Bosnia and Herzegovina at this event were Ismail Šehić, the director of BRAVO and the president of SZSR, alongside Haris Idriz, an expert in children’s sports and an active member of the Federation of Sports and Recreation.
In addition to BRAVO and SZSR, several esteemed organizations have joined forces to make ORIUNITE a reality. The consortium of partners includes the following organizations: Orientaction, L’ORMA, Poli Sibaris Club, Croatian Orienteering Federation, Impact Wave Communication and Landessportbund Berlin.
Together, these organizations will work on implementing ORIUNITE across multiple countries, ensuring its impact is both far-reaching and sustainable.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
ORIUNITE (Orienteering, Uniting Nations in Interactive Team Efforts) is a pioneering sports-based initiative designed to bring together youth from communities affected by conflict. By engaging in orienteering—a sport that combines navigation and endurance—participants will collaborate in team-based activities, joint training sessions, and cultural exchanges, all while breaking down historical and social barriers.
This project is built on a foundation of:
- Comprehensive mapping collaborations to encourage teamwork and learning
- Inclusive sporting events that promote empathy, respect, and mutual understanding
- Long-term peacebuilding efforts driven by sports as a tool for reconciliation
ORIUNITE seeks to transcend divisions and inspire a new generation of youth leaders who will carry forward the values of collaboration, cultural appreciation, and peaceful coexistence. With a strong commitment to sustainability and inclusivity, the project will serve as a shining example of how sports can be a catalyst for positive change in communities worldwide.
