ABOUT THE PROJECT

Available data suggests that smoking is the main cause of lung cancer, accounting for around 63% of lung cancer deaths worldwide. In Türkiye, this correlation remains significant, with around 90% of lung cancer cases attributed to smoking. Faced with this alarming scenario, there is an imperative to act, emphasizing the need to educate the population about the harmful effects of smoking, promote lung cancer prevention, and encourage the adoption of healthier lifestyles. This project was conceived with a resolute intention—to reduce the number of smokers in the country and, consequently, to reduce the incidence of lung cancer.

In short, the project, entitled “A Step Towards a Life Without Darkness,” is a high-priority volunteering initiative funded by the European Solidarity Corps programme to respond to the high levels of lung cancer in the world and, essentially, in Türkiye.
