The project “A Step Towards a Life Without Darkness,” is a significant volunteering initiative funded by the European Solidarity Corps programme. This project aims to address the critical issue of high lung cancer rates globally, with a particular focus on Turkey. By mobilizing volunteers and leveraging community engagement, the project seeks to create awareness, provide education, and foster a supportive network for those affected by lung cancer.

A central component of the initiative involves organizing weekly meetings, which serve as a platform for volunteers and stakeholders to plan activities, share updates, and strategize on effective outreach methods. These meetings ensure that the project remains dynamic and responsive to the needs of the community.

One of the major activities is the preparation for the 11th International Oncology Days. This event is crucial for disseminating the latest research, sharing best practices, and fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals, researchers, and volunteers. The conference aims to advance the fight against lung cancer through knowledge exchange and innovation.

Additionally, the project includes weekly visits to youth organizations. These visits are designed to engage younger generations in cancer awareness and prevention activities, instilling the importance of early detection and healthy lifestyles. By targeting youth, the project aims to build a foundation for long-term impact and cultural change.

  1. Raising Awareness: Increase public awareness about lung cancer, its causes, and prevention strategies through community engagement and educational outreach.

  1. Promoting Early Detection: Encourage early detection of lung cancer by educating the public on the symptoms and the importance of regular medical check-ups.

  1. Fostering Community Engagement: Mobilize volunteers and community members to participate in lung cancer prevention activities, fostering a supportive network for those affected by the disease.

  1. Educating Youth: Engage younger generations in cancer awareness and prevention activities, emphasizing the importance of healthy lifestyles and early detection to build a foundation for long-term impact.

  1. Supporting Workplaces: Implementing workplace health initiatives by distributing the company pack to local businesses, encouraging employers to support their employees in leading healthier lives.

  1. Promoting Smoke-Free Environments: Educating parents and young children on the importance of a smoke-free environment through the preschool pack, promoting lifelong healthy habits from an early age.

  1. Disseminating Knowledge: Organizing and preparing for the 11th International Oncology Days to share the latest research, best practices, and innovations in the fight against lung cancer.

  1. Encouraging Healthy Lifestyle Choices: Visit restaurants, cafes, and tea houses to distribute educational materials and engage with the public, encouraging conversations about lung cancer prevention and the dangers of smoking.
