This project seeks to create citizen mobilization and inter-European links through participatory activities to develop relations between truly cosmopolitan cities and European capitals, enjoying the worldwide impact of the Olympic Games and other major visibility milestones, to promote European values and engage citizens in the life of their territory through sport, culture and youth engagement. The relevance of the project is based on important cultural rapprochements between Paris, Sarajevo, Timisoara, Valencia and Gdansk concerning the enrichment of European youth, volunteering, culture, sport, and environmental matters that allow to develop a positive cooperation between the citizens.
We want to give participants the opportunity to discover the cultural diversity of the European Union through cultural events such as exhibitions, festivals, and exchanges to make them aware that European values and cultural heritage constitute the foundation for a common future, reinforcing mutual understanding and friendship between European citizens. The involvement of such capitals (national or thematic) and the highlight of the Olympics promotes peaceful relations between Europeans and beyond, and favor their active participation at local level. This project also encourages cooperation between municipalities, through the concrete embroiling of local civil society actors, as well as exchanges of youth, and the exchange of best practices through thematic conferences recognizing their entitled label as European capitals of youth, environment, volunteering or culture. In one word, benefiting already vibrant territories, we want to make sure to fully “Europeanize” the activities and local mobilization already existing, through this project.
A key aspect of the project involves offering participants the opportunity to explore the rich cultural diversity within the European Union through activities of the Youth Exchange. These activities aim to raise awareness about European values and cultural heritage, emphasizing their importance as the bedrock for a shared future.
The primary aim of the Connectowns2U project is to enhance cultural dialogue and promote a strong sense of European belonging through active civic engagement. Youth participants in the project will gain invaluable insights into themselves and others, learning to adapt to new cultures and environments while developing a sense of European identity and solidarity. They will also contribute to project addressing contemporary challenges, thereby making a meaningful impact on their communities. The youth exchange program in Sarajevo exemplifies this mission, providing a platform for young Europeans to unite, share their experiences, and collaborate towards common goals. This Youth Exchange will not only encourage civic engagement but also foster unity and cooperation across Europe, aligning with the project’s commitment to peace, human rights, and environmental sustainability.
