Do you want to work in an international team on the topic of participation for people with diabetes? Do you have a good knowledge of social media and are you confident and experienced in writing texts? This transnational project is about identifying and removing existing barriers for people with diabetes. For the project, the partner institutions are looking for people with knowledge and experience in organising events, public relations and implementing projects. Creativity and enjoyment of photography and video production are also desirable. Knowledge of English is a prerequisite for participation, knowledge of German and Turkish is an advantage.
Jugendhilfe und Sozialarbeit e.V. in Fürstenwalde/Spree is a regional youth welfare organisation in eastern Brandenburg. Within the scope of its educational work, the partner institution sets itself the goal of reaching and supporting especially socially disadvantaged adolescents. The association is also committed to combating right-wing extremism, promoting interreligious dialogue and the inclusion of young people with disabilities.
Bosnian Representative Association for Valuable Opportunities (BRAVO) is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation based in Sarajevo. BRAVO’s vision is to improve the position of young people in society through education, information and active participation in society. It is also active in the field of youth mobility, has numerous collaborations with national and international associations in the field of youth and education, and is involved in inclusive youth work.
The two organisations have been collaborating since 2020, and this project advocates for participation of people with diabetes, such as identifying barriers to participation in international projects and developing a checklist on how to make projects more accessible to these individuals. People with diabetes will be empowered through this project, as well as networked and educated about diabetes. Social media and other platforms play a major role in this.
In the first project phase in Fürstenwalde, you will familiarise yourself with the project and the team. Together, you will define initial tasks and distribute them among yourselves. You compile information about diabetes and how international projects can facilitate access for people with diabetes. These recommendations for action will be used internally. You will also organise the first international project meeting with participants from Germany, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Turkey. This meeting will take place in August in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
During the second project phase in Sarajevo, you will support the participants of the international project meeting in local undertakings. You will follow the event on social networks as well as create photo and video material. Following this meeting, you will revise the recommendations for action created in your first project phase. You will also assist in the planning and implementation of the second international project meeting, which will take place in Germany in September. Furthermore, you will network locally to support local organisations in working with people with diabetes.
As the project may be implemented solely digitally depending on the development of the global Corona situation, you should be able to, for example, conduct video conferences and online workshops using common applications or complete your activities using interactive digital tools.
The project phase in Germany will take place from April to June 2022; in Bosnia and Herzegovina from mid-July to mid-October 2022. Three ASA seminars will be held in parallel with the project phase in Germany between April and June 2022, and another in spring 2023.
A prerequisite for participation in the ASA program is active participation in the seminars (2022 and 2023) and in both project phases in Germany and in the partner country. These are two three-month full-time activities. The project phase in Bosnia and Herzegovina will take place in Sarajevo. If the project is carried out digitally, it will also take place full-time. Online presence times can deviate from the usual working times in Bosnia and Herzegovina according to the time difference.
