On the 15th of April, BRAVO kickstarted another project you will love! Gathered in the heart of Sarajevo, BRAVO alongside other partners from Serbia (CDER), Montenegro (PRIMA) Albania (BBA), Croatia (HERMES) and North Macedonia (CID), successfully conducted a kick-off meeting for the Erasmus+ project “MEDIActive Youth”.
So what is this project all about?
The MEDIActive Youth project aims to build a media-literate society and better inform young people and wide public about the key issues and problems of youth policy worldwide. We recognize this as an urgent problem and thus, this project serves as an amazing opportunity to build a media-literate society. This is our mission and we surely won’t stop until we reach the final goals!
Media freedom in the partnering countries is particularly low and to make the whole situation worse, an overtly skeptical and even negative sentiment towards the EU has been increasingly spread through the official media and politicians, resulting in a drop in popular support for the EU membership in the Western Balkans.
The meeting serves as an opportunity for partners to meet each other, present the work of their organizations, and further exchange good practices. The consortium consists of strong organizations that are bound to make an everlasting impact. After the introduction part, partners discussed the implementation of future project activities, specifically the Training of Trainers which will be held in Belgrade by the end of May. Besides the implementation of ToT, the partners further elaborated on the creation of a textbook and Moodle Course that will aim to educate both professionals and students.
The meeting was a success, as all the partners gained a deeper understanding of the project structure. After returning to their countries, the partners are now fully prepared to implement the project activities and create significant positive changes in society.
What’s next for the project “MEDIActive Youth”? Stay tuned to find out and join us on this journey of empowering minds!
ABOUT MEDIACTIVE YOUTH
The Project aims to build a media-literate society and to better inform young people and wide public about the key issues and problems of youth policy worldwide. A particularly important aspect of this Project is its focus on the Balkans, more precisely the Western Balkans and Croatia, which has been the most turbulent part of Europe in the previous decades. Almost three decades after the end of wars in the Former Yugoslavia, ethnic animosity and hostility are still widespread in the region, especially among young people. Numerous examples of xenophobia, intolerance, and hate speech can be seen in sports matches, nationalist websites, certain media, public life and politics. Media freedoms in these countries are low, and many media– too often even the official, public ones with national frequencies – spur animosity towards the neighboring countries and nations. In addition, an overtly skeptical and even negative sentiment towards the EU has been increasingly spread through the official media and politicians, resulting in a drop in popular support for the EU membership in the Western Balkans, especially in Serbia. Thereby, in the Balkan context, the Project project has a specific goal of strengthening the dialogue and post-conflict reconciliation and promoting the EU and common EU values.
It aims to elevate the level of media and news literacy among young individuals and youth NGOs. Additionally, it seeks to enhance the visibility of youth policy within the media landscape. Moreover, the initiative aims to expand the MEDIActive youth program to include Balkan countries. The project aims to develop news literacy and critical thinking skills among young journalists and citizens. Lastly, the Project seeks to establish cooperative relationships and networks among youth NGOs in the Balkan region.
