The international meeting for the #Train4Family project took place on October 11-12, 2024, in Palermo, Italy, bringing together representatives from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Turkey, Slovenia, Spain, and Italy. This collaborative gathering aimed to evaluate project progress, exchange good practices, and outline the next steps in promoting sports and healthy lifestyles for children with disabilities and their families.
The event kicked off with an introduction to the Multinational Report and the eLearning platform developed under the project. These tools provide educational resources and methodologies for families and sports specialists, enabling the effective inclusion of children with disabilities aged 6 to 18 into sports activities like swimming and athletics. The initiative also emphasizes healthy, plant-based diets as part of a broader strategy to enhance physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Participants discussed how to create a supportive sports environment tailored to children with various physical and intellectual disabilities. Coaches from each partner country shared insights on inclusive coaching techniques and provided updates on the pilot programs being implemented, focusing on regular physical activity and family involvement as core elements of the project.
The second day featured a key milestone: the signing of a Memorandum at the Sicilian Parliament. This agreement underscores the commitment to further collaboration on developing a comprehensive training manual and producing sports demonstration videos to guide families and coaches. A significant portion of the meeting was devoted to designing effective dissemination strategies to ensure broader reach and engagement.
As part of its Erasmus+ co-funding, #Train4Family aims to increase awareness of the benefits of physical activity and healthy nutrition. By integrating children with disabilities into sports, the project seeks not only to reduce social isolation but also to empower families to adopt sustainable, healthy lifestyles.
Stay tuned for upcoming sports events and training sessions planned in each partner country, as the #Train4Family project continues its mission to foster inclusion, equality, and a healthier future for all.
