During the month of July, an event was held as part of the Train 4 Family Erasmus+ project, during which we presented our work from the past months to a wider audience, including parents with children as well as young people. During the presentation, we highlighted the key points of the project, with one of the most important implementations being the sports activities carried out over a period of nine months, where children with disabilities were included in swimming and athletics training sessions.
At the Olympic Pool in Sarajevo, within the swimming club “SPID,” 15 children with disabilities together with their families were included, with professional coaches guiding them through the entire program. At the Safet Zajko Center, the athletics club “Atleta” welcomed 7 members to athletics classes. During the process, the children underwent fitness testing as well as basic measurements (height, weight, etc.); the same tests were conducted at the end of the project to compare their progress.
In addition to showcasing the implemented sports activities, we also presented various educational materials created for families, enabling them to independently carry out training sessions and thus improve health and quality of life within the family.
Train 4 Family is Erasmus + project which main objectives are Raising awareness of the importance of physical activity among children and their families, increasing physical activity levels in children as well as educating family members to learn to conduct sport activities with their children. The activities of the project are focused on improving the quality of life of children with disabilities, their families and on the active promotion of sport as a mechanism through which to reduce the degree of marginalization and improve the conditions for the social integration of children with disabilities. Through athletics and swimming we want disabled children aged 6-18 to join their family (parents guardians / brothers and sisters) in basic sporting activities which are a great way to move, which is important for everyone’s physical health and can help improve confidence and self-esteem.
